There’s lot of exciting storylines in the upcoming season 6 of “Game of Thrones,” but series star Liam Cunningham is particularly amazed by Arya Stark’s (Maisie Williams) journey in the new installment.
“There’s absolutely amazing stuff coming in, and so left-of-field,” IGN quoted Cunningham as saying during a press event. “Watching your favorite characters being put in these situations, they’re so unpredictable and unexpected and it’s one of the trademarks of the show. I mean, for me, [points to Maisie Williams] your voyage this year is insane! [Williams laughs]. It is so different from what ‘Game of Thrones’ has been, it’s just nuts.”
Williams responded to Cunningham’s comments by explaining why she thinks every character can have an interesting voyage in season 6.
“The main exciting thing about this series, because we’re now ‘off-book’, is they can write a well-rounded series without having to stick to certain plot points already laid out,” Williams said. “So everyone can have like a nice arc and a pinnacle moment.”
As for Arya’s storyline, Williams said that viewers will see her character at her lowest point when the show returns later this month.
“Going into season six, she gets broken down totally,” Williams said of Arya, according to Digital Spy. “We see her at the lowest point we’ve ever seen her. This time it’s nothing to do with a family member being killed, it’s something purely about herself.”
“I love that side of it, and I think this new [season], we definitely see a new crack in her,” the 18-year-old actress added. “There’s a moment where you question whether she’s going to get back up or keep fighting.”
The “Doctor Who” alum also confirmed that fans will see less of Arya in the new installment. According to Express (via WatchersOnTheWall.com), Williams said that many of her scenes in season 6 were “split up” but she still feels that her character’s story still “totally flows.”
“Game of Thrones” season 6 premieres on Sunday, April 24, at 9 p.m. on HBO.
